The Night Everything Changed
In the early hours of August 30, 2022, our world changed forever. A sudden and devastating barn fire took the lives of three horses and two beloved German shepherds. In minutes, flames destroyed the structure that held our breeding program, equipment, memories, and pieces of our daily life.
But nothing hurt more than the lives we couldn’t save.
All the material things can be replaced. The animals can't be.
The loss was unimaginable—and yet, the support from our neighbors, community, and the harness racing world carried us through the darkest moments.

strength in the people around us
Within minutes of the fire, firefighters, neighbors, and friends arrived—some before we even understood the full scope of what was happening.
They brought equipment, water, supplies, food, and most importantly, compassion.
We continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness shown to us—from those who stood with us that night to those who helped us rebuild in the weeks and months that followed.
Small gestures, big gestures, shared tears… we felt every one of them.

they were a part of our family
Among the lives lost that night, none left a deeper ache than Manhardt. Beloved across the harness racing world and cherished even more deeply here at home, he was gentle, patient, and endlessly kind — the stallion who greeted every day, every visitor, and every handler with quiet grace. For Libby, he was more than a champion; he was family. His absence is felt in every corner of the farm, and his memory will forever hold a place of its own in our story.
We also lost Fool Me Once, a remarkable racehorse whose career earned over $1.1 million and whose bright, charismatic spirit brought joy to everyone around him. And we mourn the yearling who never got the chance to begin his journey — a young life full of promise, gone far too soon.
The heartbreak did not end there. Our two loyal German shepherds, Zeb and Sydney, who guarded the barn, followed us through daily routines, and filled the farm with their unwavering devotion, were also lost in the fire. Their absence is felt as deeply as any horse we have ever known.
We carry each of them with us as we move forward, honoring their memory through the care, compassion, and commitment we give to every horse — and every animal — who calls Snow Ridge Farm home.

out of loss came a new beginning
In the months that followed, we rebuilt... not just the barn, but our vision for Snow Ridge Farm.
We redesigned our facilities, improved safety, expanded our breeding program, and created the environment we always dreamed of… one where every horse is treated like a million-dollar winner, because to us, they are.
This chapter is written in their honor.

the heart of snow ridge farm remains the same
Despite everything we lost that night, one thing never changed - our love for the animals entrusted to our care.
We move forward stronger, more grateful, and more committed than ever to providing exceptional, compassionate, and thoughtful horsemanship.
Their memory is woven into everything we do.

where the ashes fell, hope grew. thank you for standing with us.
The night of the fire is something we’ll carry with us forever. It was chaotic, terrifying, and heartbreaking in every way. But what we remember just as clearly is what happened next... people showed up. Before we even knew what to ask for, our community was already there, standing with us, lifting us up, and reminding us we weren’t facing any of it alone.
To everyone who donated, sent a message, showed up in the middle of the night, or kept us in their thoughts... thank you. You helped rebuild more than a barn. You helped rebuild us. From the firefighters who freed Fitzmagic, to the neighbors who stayed with us through the flames, to the friends who collected our surviving horses in the dark - you helped us get through one of the worst nights of our lives.
And when daylight came, the work of rebuilding started. All Seasons Underground, Bill Bates Construction, Bendele Construction, Stone Crafters of Clarklake, and Ford Motor Company stepped in without hesitation. They brought equipment, time, sweat, and kindness... and they kept showing up, even on the days when we felt like we couldn’t. And alongside them, Brok Vanzandt and Lane Myers put in countless hours doing whatever needed to be done, helping bring the new barn to life piece by piece. Friends and family created small keepsakes from pieces of the old barn and Manhardt’s stall, reminders that love can hold you together when everything else feels broken.

Our farm is standing today because of that love... the love we have for our horses, the love this community poured into us, and the love we carry for the ones we lost. Manhardt, Fool Me Once, our yearling, and our shepherds Zeb and Sydney were family. Losing them left holes that will never fully heal, but we feel them with us every day in the work we do and the horses we care for.
We’ll never forget them.
And we’ll never take a single day on this farm for granted.
From our family to yours... thank you for helping us find our footing again. Your support meant more than we can ever put into words.
Mike & Libby Myers
